Management Practices and Holistic Development of Dance Troupe in Selected Secondary Schools

Management is a procedure of designing and sustaining an environment where everyone works together to attain the organization's goal. The study is a comparative analysis of the management practices of selected secondary public schools' dance troupe. This study is primarily anchored to the Skills Acquisition Theory (SAT). Specifically,  the aims to identify the management practices and holistic development of the dance troupe members. The research study wants to determine the procedures in terms of rehearsals and training, community involvement, qualification of dancers, facilities, financial support, and the level of dancers' attributes in terms of attitude, discipline, and skills. The researcher also wants to determine if there is a significant relationship between the management practices and holistic development on the personal attributes of dance troupe members of the selected secondary public schools. Using a descriptive-quantitative methodology, a self-administered questionnaire was utilized in the survey of 172 dancers. The results revealed that dancers are well-disciplined and highly skilled. The management of the dance troupe struggles in terms of qualifications of the members, facilities, and financial support, which ultimately affect their preparation and training programs. Hence, there is a significant relationship between the management practices and holistic development of dance troupe members. Executive functions in insomnia disorder: a systematic review and exploratory meta-analysis

Background: Executive functions (EFs) are involved in the control of basic psychological processes such as attention and memory and also contribute to emotion regulation. Research on the presence of EFs impairments in insomnia yielded inconsistent results. Therefore, we performed a systematic review of the literature on three EFs: inhibitory control, working memory, and cognitive flexibility in adults with insomnia in order to investigate the presence and magnitude of insomnia-related EFs impairments. Methods: PubMed, Scopus, Medline, and PsycINFO were searched. Risk of bias assessment of included studies was performed by two independent researchers. Findings were summarised using both a narrative approach and meta-analysis. Cohen’s d was calculated at 95% confidence interval (CI) as effect size of between groups differences. Results: Twenty-eight studies comparing adult individuals with a diagnosis of insomnia and healthy controls on neuropsychological measures of EFs were included. Narrative synthesis revealed substantial variability across study findings. Factors that were primarily hypothesised to account for this variability are: objective sleep impairments and test sensitivity. Exploratory meta-analysis showed impaired performance of small to moderate magnitude in individuals with insomnia as compared to controls in reaction times, but not accuracy rates, of inhibitory control (d = −0.32, 95% CI: −0.52 to −0.13) and cognitive flexibility tasks (d = −0.30, 95% CI: −0.59 to −0.01). Performance in working memory tasks was also significantly impacted (d = −0.19, 95% CI: −0.38 to −0.00). Effects sizes were larger when insomnia was associated with objective sleep impairments, rather than normal sleep. Conclusions: We gathered evidence supporting small to moderate deficits in EFs in individuals with insomnia. The useful potential of using existing data to uniquely identify predictable wind events and regimes, part 1

Correlations between standard meteorological data and wind power generation potential were developed. Combined with appropriate wind forecasts, these correlations can be useful to load dispatchers to supplement conventional energy sources. Hourly wind data were analyzed for four sites, each exhibiting a unique physiography. These sites are Amarillo, Texas; Ludington, Michigan; Montauk Point, New York; and San Gorgonio, California. Synoptic weather maps and tables are presented to illustrate various wind 'regimes' at these sites

University Students' Online Learning During COVID-19: The Role of Grit in Academic Performance

The governmental restriction due to COVID-19 pandemic led to Italian Universities moving teaching from face-to-face, to online. This represented an unexpected transition from traditional learning to what can be considered “e-learning.” This, together with the psychological distress that may be associated with the experience of lockdown, might have affected students' performance. It was hypothesised that grit may be a protective factor in such situations. Indeed, compared to their less “gritty” peers, individuals with higher levels of grit are expected to exhibit greater persistence in the pursuit of goals despite setbacks. Within educational contexts, grit is portrayed as a potentially important influence on outcomes such as achievement level, retention and probability of graduation. A longitudinal study was conducted using an online survey in order to assess the moderated mediation effect of grit on students' achievement. One hundred seventy-six undergraduate students from two universities in the north of Italy participated in the survey. The results showed that grit affects students' grades in final exams; perceived self-efficacy in the management of complex problems had a mediation effect on grades, while psychological distress moderated the first part of the mediation process. These novel findings extended our knowledge regarding the role of grit in academic performance investigating for the first time the role of self-efficacy and psychological distress in a learning carried out entirely online

The Self-(un)Identification of Disability in Higher Education

Use of the self-identification process and accommodation services can, in theory, positively contribute to student success; however, students with disabilities may be negatively impacted if they perceive others viewing them as less significant members of the college community. This study identifies the number of students with self-identified disabilities within higher education and the change in self-identification cases over the course of postsecondary enrollment. Utilizing data from the Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study, findings indicate that, 59% of students who self-identified during the first year of postsecondary education, unidentified by the first follow-up and, of those who identified as having a disability at the first follow-up, only 38% also self-identified during the base-year

Anthropogenic Impacts of Irrigation on the Arthropod Community Structure of a Coastal Sage Scrub Habitat in Los Angeles

We evaluated the effects of an irrigation system on the community structure of arthropods in a coastal sage scrub chaparral habitat. We placed 5 traps in the irrigated site and 5 traps in control site, for a total of 10 sticky traps (using Tree Tanglefoot) in an area adjacent to Ballona Wetlands in Los Angeles, California. The traps were set at the irrigated and non-irrigated site on Telegraph Weed for one week. Results showed that morphospecies richness, relative abundance, and taxonomic order representation were higher at the control site than at the irrigated site. Our study documents how anthropogenic impacts in a coastal sage scrub habitat can alter the community composition of invertebrates in the fringe habitats surrounding the last wetlands in Los Angeles County

Uma perspectiva naturalista do usuário de design

Este estudo reúne uma série de informações sobre design centrado no usuário e naturalismo. Através da compilação e análise de dados bibliográficos, breves conhecimentos sobre cada tema foram relacionados com o intuito de apresentar uma perspectiva naturalista do usuário de produtos de design. O método de pesquisa utilizado foi a investigação bibliográfica, que abrange as áreas de design, design centrado no usuário e naturalismo filosófico. Exemplificando as relações entre essas áreas, alguns conhecimentos obtidos pela neurociência fornecem uma perspectiva naturalista do usuário de design, de modo a mostrar como fatores biológicos podem influenciar sua interação com objetos de design.Abstract: This study collects a range of information about user-centered design and naturalism. Through the compilation and analysis of bibliographic data, brief knowledge of each theme were related to present a naturalistic perspective of the user of design products. The research method employed was a bibliographic search, covering the areas of design, user-centered design and philosophical naturalism. Exemplifying the relations between these areas, some knowledge from neuroscience provide a naturalistic perspective of the user of design products, in order to show how biological factors influence his interaction with design objects
